First Diabetes Camp of 2014! At our New LOCATION!

Saturday April 5th 2014, was our first health camp of  the season!  This one is especially significant because it was held at our new clinic space that we are renting out.  This space is equipped with a pharmacy and 3 exam rooms. We would not have been able to have this if it was not for your donations over the past 2 years! So.. THANK YOU!

These hands have been through so much...Waiting Patiently... Best Smile Award!

150 people showed up for this camp. Everyone received free testing for diabetes from myself and 3 other nurses and also had a free health checkup from the two doctors that volunteered their time that day.

Once again, the majority of the people were diagnosed with pre-diabetes (blood glucose levels of 100-125 mg/dl after an overnight or eight-hour fast may indicate prediabetes. People with these results are considered to have impaired fasting glucose,),  diabetes and hypertension. We also discovered a few patients walking around with a random blood sugar of 528 and greater than 600 (Normal range is 70-100) Blood sugar this high is extremely detrimental for your health. It can cause multiple organ failure, blindness, coronary artery disease, tissue necrosis and limb amputations.

The clinic is located in Jutpani, Chitwan, about 12 kilometers from College of Medical Sciences. A new paint job for all the walls and beds would be a great improvement for its appearance! If anyone would like to come and help spruce up the place or even volunteer your time to help out at the camps, let me know! You can email me at Maria@Buckettsoflove.org if you are interested.
