Our latest camp was very last minute but turned out to be one of the best one’s yet. I went to Annapurna Higher Secondary School in Parbatipur, Chitwan, to test the entire faculty’s Random Blood Sugar and to provide education on Diabetes. I was asked to return to educate the students on Diabetes as well!!
After the day spent at the high school, I went to a home in Parbatipur where about 20 members from the community came to get tested. Out of the total of 50 people tested that day, 27 of them were pre-diabetic or had diabetes and had no idea! They were all referred to College of Medical Sciences-Teaching Hospital, to get a fasting blood sugar test the following morning and to receive more care.
Everyday for the past 5 months, Nepal gives me an overwhelming feeling of genuine happiness and contentment . The landscape and the people are so beautiful.
This day made it very hard to realize that I am leaving Nepal in 2 weeks. These past 5 months went by so fast. But it’s nice to know that I have a home here and I am returning again in a few months. Nepal is a place where the people do not possess many material items, however, their smiles and genuine care and hospitality towards others is PLENTIFUL!!! I am so happy to be giving something back for the people because I know they would give anything they have to help others as well.
Normal random blood sugar levels are 70-120. One woman was walking around with a level of 564 and had no idea! Out of the 50 patients tested, 27 of them were pre-diabetics or diabetics!
