The Doris “Aunt DD” Stansel

Nursing Scholarship Fund

BY Nick Greece

The Purpose of the Doris “Aunt DD” Stansel Scholarship Program is to provide scholarships to deserving Nepali nursing students who intend to pursue a course of study at a 3-5-year educational institution.

The criteria for the scholarship:

1. Applicant must attend a certified school of nursing in Nepal

2. Applicant must maintain an A average.

3. Applicant must demonstrate community involvement, academic improvement, and desire and passion to be a nurse.

We will be working hand-in hand with BucketTs of Love, a charitable organization run by Maria Benedetti, a nurse from New York City. (Could it be anywhere else for an Aunt DD Scholarship Program?) Maria will be boots-on-the-ground in Nepal for a few months each year, in order to work with and assist the scholarship recipients.

MAKE AN IMPACT!

If you can donate to help us send our first award winner, Anuska, through nursing school in Nepal, we will be extremely grateful.

If you give a donation, please email Nick Greece at nick@paraglidingguides.com, so your name can be added to the updated list where Nick will post news of Anuska’s progress.

About Doris Stansel

Doris “Aunt DD” Stansel was a mother, an aunt, a sister, a wife, a friend, a nurse, and an amazing human spirit who cherished time with her family, travel, and philanthropy. She passed away at 87 years in 2023, on the very day she was born into it, March 28.

She became a nurse after graduating from Augustana School of Nursing in Chicago, Illinois, and embarked on a lifetime of caring for others, drawing on her natural strengths of compassion and courage.

During her life, Doris put her kindness into action by establishing the HC Stansel Research Fund at Yale University, in honor of her late husband, a cardiac surgeon. She traveled to Haiti, where she met with the director of HELP, the Haitian Education and Leadership Program, and became a donor to this remarkable program that provides deserving Haitian students with education through college. Other charities, including the Cloudbase Foundation, located in Nepal, also benefitted from her generosity.

This nursing scholarship program in Nepal being set up in her honor will work to support as many nursing students as possible. It will take them from nursing school admission through graduation and master’s degrees, if applicable. This grant will keep Aunt DD’s indominable spirit alive, By supporting an endeavor to which she would love to look down on and see her name attached.
